If you are using a full size keyboard with a number key pad, then the "alt+3" approach will work. If you are using a notebook which usually does not have a numeric keypad, it is a little more clumsy but can be done. On my Dell there is an "fn" key which is blue. It has to be held down to get the blue symbols on the keys to work. So, I have to hold the "alt+Fn+3". Not the Three with the # sign across the top of the keyboard, but the three which is on my "L" key, the "embedded" numeric keypad.
There is another way. Click "Start - All programs - Accessories - System tools - Character map". I've made a shortcut for that one. The CM will show you all the symbols along with the "alt" codes to make them. But you can select one, copy it, then paste it where you want it. Happy hearts! ♥
