There is a lot of political rhetoric in the news about "supporting the troops" and I would like to know what do people think is the proper way to "support our troops?"

Give them the equipment they need to do their job. Give them proper pay. Give them proper medical treatment. When they return home, thank them rather then tell them they are responsible for a war you don't like. Call them heroes. Provide services for them so they can integrate back into society after they return. I could keep going.

Notice you can completely be against the war and still follow my version of supporting the troops.

Not discharging them for "Prior to Entry Personality Disorders" which the Army had no evidence of. Just a means to cull them so the government didn't have to pay!

Involved were 22,000 military, all who served at least 1 tour in Iraq, some 2, Many had Purple Hearts, and many were within 20 feet of IED or rocket blasts is not supporting the troops!

Cutting the VA Hospitals budget by 100 Billion after 3 years of war while they are treating 105,000 and turning many away, while you give tax cuts to the rich is not supporting the troops!

Sending them into combat with too few and not properly equipped is not supporting the troops!

If you want to support the troops you don't do the above, and you pay for their disabilities!

You don't give money to the rich, while you cut VA Hospitals, cut widows pay in 1/2 and try and cut their combat pay!

You don't send people back to Iraq after their contract is up. You let them out! That is a defacto draft!

You do something rather than "stay the course" and let them become traget practice for 4 years. You start withdrawing them by changing their mission! The Iraqi's WILL NEVER be able to stand on their own unless the civil war is played out or some political agreement is reached.

You also fund the VA!

You get to them appropriate equipment. It has been almost 5 years and they still don't have it!

and you don't keep getting them killed for nothing!

And Bush is a liar!

Al-Rubaie would not give a new deadline.

"I think it is very difficult to predict a certain time," he said. "This depends on the speed of training and equipping. This depends on the level of threat whether regional or local. But we are not talking about weeks, or not even months. More than months."

U.S. military officials have been signaling for weeks that improvements in Iraqi security forces had not lived up to expectations — especially in the national police, which is widely believed to be infiltrated by Shiite militiamen.

On Friday, Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch, who commands U.S. troops south of Baghdad, said it would take until the summer of 2008 to consolidate recent gains in his area, which controls land routes into the capital from the east and south.

Last week, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Peter Pace, said the number of combat-ready Iraqi battalions able to fight independently has dropped from 10 to six in recent months despite an increase in U.S. training efforts.

Those grim assessments follow years of optimistic public statements from the Pentagon about the progress in Iraqi security forces and have fueled calls in the Democratic-controlled Congress to begin withdrawing from Iraq.

I was once there and i would say send things to let them know that they are on your mind. It could be small things like cards, and letters, or bigger things like care packages.

1) not side with terrorist propaganda and continually say we're losing the war and we should pull out immediately. what it does, and what it did in vietnam as well, it shows the US to be divided. it emboldens the enemy to continue to fight instead of negotiating a cease fire or terms of surrender.

2) not pulling a murtha and using lies by the bleedia like time magazine and calling our troops murderers when the haditha "massacre" was completely fabricated from the testimony of a terrorist and a so called "reporter" from time. when our troops are guilty of crimes. they are prosecuted by the military.

3) support the ENTIRE mission in Iraq. which includes the vast amount of humanitarian aid we are giving to the Iraqis. many of our soliders are privately police officers, city planners, engineers etc...and they are trying to rebuild a nation. there are numerous charities started by soliders who are currently or have served to continue to do the mission.

that is supporting our troops. also if you see someone in uniform at a local bar, buy them a beer and say thanks.
