I worked as a courtesy clerk at Ralphs and my school only permitted me to work 16 hrs a week since I have to do a lot of school work every day of the week (I have to finish a year's worth amount of work in just three weeks, so I'm always busy with school work). Anywho, I come to work today and they tell me that they are letting me go because I was "slow" at what I was doing. Which is complete BS because my cart bins were always empty in the parking lots, and I was medium-fast when bagging (I always get tips from customers when I'm bagging). Anywho, one day when I was doing carts, all the carts were empty and I was standing in the shade because it was 90 degrees outside, 10 minutes later the manager gives me a lecture about "sitting at Starbucks" and I was like, "WTF, I wasn't at Starbucks". And that was another one of their BS reasons. I'm not sad, I'm just pissed off that they can't tell me the truth as to why I was let go...

We also have six managers. Two of them didn't like me for some strange reason even though the major boss was like "you're nice". I think that the manager that made up bullshit stories about me going to Starbucks wanted me to get fired. Grr. Karma is a *****, and I hope that it bites him in the ***.

Anywho.... that might be the reason. If you said "WTF" that might be another reason. They really don't have to give you a reason. Just look for another job.

My husband has not yet been fired but has been told that he is "slow" and that he "can't do the job" by one of the four managers at his work place. The other three like him enough. He's working stocking the shelves. He works his tail off while others around him mess around and lie about what they have done that day. I honestly think that this manager is a racist because my husband is darker skinned while most other people in this area are white. The same manager is under investigation for sexual harassment of a female worker. I am worried about him getting fired since he has only been there for a little over a month.
If he gets fired I am taking it it up both the union that he's with an the human rights tribunal.
When you fire someone here without "just cause" they are entitled to certain things. Unfortunately being slow is "just cause" for termination.

Omg, that's horrible, and I totally agree that that's a BS reason to fire you. You seem like a good, honest worker and of course some people will be jealous of that. All I can say is that it happens to a lot of people in life, including me, just learn from it, and find a new job. After all your schooling you'll probably be on to bigger and better things anyways, while those BS Managers will still be at there job going nowhere. So when you really think about it, karma is already on your side .

Give it a rest & go find another job. There are plenty out there. If you were under probation then they have the luxury of keeping you on & giving you a raise, letting you stay at probation, or letting you go. While on probation you must work your tail off to prove you should get the raise.

Yea ... sounds like you could fight it, but why? It would cost money and time and energy that you could better spend on getting your education. Trust me, when you graduate from college and go back to Ralph's to see those same losers bagging your groceries, it won't even piss you off anymore. Just make sure they bag you up quickly. ;)

If 6 people don't like you, maybe there's some reason for it. Perhaps you need to look deep inside to see if there's something about you that just doesn't seem right...this could be the real reason for letting you go.

Unfortuantely, "at will employment" usually applies. Now, if you are a protected class (minority, female, elderly, homosexual, trans-whatever, etc..) and you feel that may be a contributing factor to your termination, file a complaint and muck up his day....lol.
