While Superman is my favorite character and I can't stand the Silver Surfer, I have to say that in most battles between the two, the Silver Surfer would probably win. I base this on the *current* comic-book interpretations of the characters.
I base this on the Surfer's abilities to travel at faster-than-light speeds on his board, withstand the vacuum of space for prolonged periods without any external help or equipment, and the always-changing definition of whatever he can conjure up with the "Power Cosmic".
Superman fans, please note that I'm *not* saying the Silver Surfer is a better or more interesting character than Superman. I think Superman is by far the better character. Objectively speaking, though, I believe that under most circumstances, the Surfer would win in a fight between the two.

Superman. One thing I'm certain of is Superman could withstand anything the Silver Surfer through at him.

Probably Superman. As powerful and indestructible as Silver Surfer may seem, he simply doesn't stand a chance against Superman.
