Depends on the type of boat. I assume your friend (or family thereof) is not foolish enough to take the boat out in bad weather. Any number of things can go wrong on a boat, the least of which is the boat can hit something and take on water, or sink.
When you're on a boat, always wear a life jacket. It doesn't matter how good a swimmer you are, accidents can happen.

you could fall over board
you could fall and hit your head
get sea sick
get sun burned so bad you cant sit for a week
you could get hit by something on the boat..
you could have a fish jump out of the water and hit you.. I know that sound dumb but it happen to a Friend of mine it was so funny..
or the best thing you could have happen is you enjoy the day on the water. make sure you were sun screen... you will burn bad. you can distress and find you will just fall in love with boat ride

Besides your boyfriend getting you out on the water,far enough so there's no possible way for you to swim back to the shore,and making advances at you for some sex! You would probably wish the boat would catch fire or start sinking instead.

It can sink, capsize, leak, crash, and disappear in the Bermuda Triangle. That's why there is no way I'll ever take a cruise!
