Who pray tell have they denied the chance? Colon Powell was considered a very strong candidate at one point but for some reason he never went for it. There are those pushing for Condoleezza Rice to run but as of yet she has also declined. Minorities have been courted for the GOP, but they can't be made to run if they choose not to.

They do, its just that women and/or ethnic groups know that they would not have enough support in the GOP base, because lets be honest a lot of GOP members tend to be bigots. Not all, but a lot.

No qualified candidates.

Note the ones running for Democrats are not qualified either. Obama was a state senator before US Senate. Clinton has been 1 term senator.

Romney was a governor for 4 years, in addition a self-made millionaire.

Guiliani was mayor for 8 years of NYC, which qualifies him

Thompson was a multiterm senator and is a conservative, which the latter qualifies him.

Most of the GOP candidates have been governor or spent years in Congress.

You do realize that your discriminatory beliefs against the GOP are the same thing that you are accusing them of.

There is no truth in your statement though. Lots of conservative republican women and minorites have come up through the ranks on the GOP.

Maybe if liberals would stop calling them traitors to their race and sex for joining the GOP they might actually get somewhere.

Elizabeth Dole ran but pulled out. I would welcome any qualified person to run for president--I will not base my vote on whether a person is a member of a minority group, but rather on the content of his/her character.

Can't force people to run if they don't want to, Chi. Qualifications are more important than race and gender. Look at Dem forerunners and tell me if you're thrilled.
