I have now disclosed that my wife is pregnant to two people. The HR representative because I wanted to know a bit more about insurance coverage for the newborn and our VP because I needed more information about when an international transfer may take place. Disclosure to parents is planned over my birthday next week. Beyond that, we will tell the rest of the family and friends after the 12th week. Does this sound like a good idea as far as telling family and friends.

I was very interested in this same thing because I once suffered a miscarriage, after having told everyone I was pregnant.

A book I am reading brought up a very good point. If you don't tell anyone you are pregnant and end up miscarrying, you will have no one but your spouse to grieve with. Family and friends will find out you lost a child, but won't fully understand the loss because they never got to experience the knowing you were pregnant part. And when you suffer a loss like that, it's very important to have a good, strong support system behind you.

In the end it's a very individual decision, but I decided to tell everyone anyway. Thankfully, I did not suffer the same fate as the last pregnancy, I am now 30 weeks.

My friend just basically went through the same thing. She told a few close friends and relatives in the beginning but didn't plan on telling everyone else until after 13 weeks incase of problems. But, one of her relatives sent out a mass email spoiling it for her instead. I think your plan will work, but be prepared for someone to let it slip and how you will explain it to someone who got offended that you did not tell them right away. Oh, and CONGRATS!

I think whenever you're ready is a good time. I think people mainly wait to tell most people until after the first trimester because the risk for miscarriage drops big time after that period.

Congrats Daddy!

Yes, it sound fine to me. Wait until the third month is over before telling family and friends. Tell your parents before that.
