Ok, so i have kind of a huge problem on my hands...i decided to buff the car and i used 1500 grid sand paper which worked fine and i did it on a quarter panel and it looked great, but then, my friend told me to use a more rougher red cloth. its not exacly sand paper, but its still used for the same purpose, i think you prolly know what im talkin about. Anyways, i used that on my whole car and now i have deep scratches everywhere on my car, i dont think ive touched the paint, just the clear coat, but what do i do, is there a way to just respray clear coat or will i need to respray the whole car...Please help, buffing out those scratches isnt working...please help.

I don't know if those scotch pad marks are deep enough to be impossible to remove but in any case you have a lot of work ahead. After you regain your composure and patience at least try to 1500 grit wet sand another panel, probably the hood where it really shows up.Get in there with the polisher and heavy compound.I think you'll find the marks will come out.Actually some of my best paint work has been because something went wrong and I had to sand and polish extra hard, maybe it will work out for you too.Don't do more than a square foot at a time, just get one area right then move to another.

It will take some work but depending on how deep the scratches are, you may can take the 1500 grit sand paper and wet sand the car then, buff it all out again....if you went to deep on the first go around it maybe better to sand the clear coat good and respray with clear.

Good Luck

Lesson number 1 never use a scuff pad to color sand a car. you might be able to wet sand with the 1500 and still get it to buff out and if it doesn't be sure and give your so called friend a good swift kick in the back side

Take the car in to a paint and body shop and have them look at it. I'm sure they will give you a free estimate on the work that needs to be done. That way you'll know what needs to be done with the finish. Good luck.
