You are correct...no need for a repair shop. I have changed two alternators-both were half hour jobs assuming you have the right tools. First go to autozone or ebaymotors.com a remanufactured alternator should run you $80. Next get a chilton manual for your can-detailed instructions. Instructions as follows get a 3/8 breaker bar. Find appropriate socket for belt tensioner. Unplug alternator. Turn socket to the right on belt tensioner. Should go about 7-8 inches to the right. Remove serpentine belt (good time to replace) next loosen two or three bolts holding alternator remove and replace and reverse instructions. Good luck. Goo online to see a pic of belt tensioner if you don't know what I'm talking about. But chilton is best best from auto store or barnes and noble. Remember to vote for a best answer

Buy the Haynes service manual for your vehicle and do it yourself. I am not sure about your particular vehicle, but replacing an alternator is usually a very simple process. Although I have replaced alternators and had to raise the motor and loosen a motor mount to replace the belt.

about all that can be said is take it off and mark all the wires and put the new one on the same way you took the old one off , it really isnt that hard if you pay attention to detail
