Eclectic means that it takes from this and that. I define myself as an Eclectic Pagan, which really means I do a lot of research and study about religion. (I even earned that for my major!) I like shifting through religious beliefs and sorting out what they have in common. Virtues such as peace, love, compassion, and such are found in many religions so I focus on those. It also means that I am not tied to one set of Deities. I personally don't use the names of the God/dess in worship, but I love to read stories about them. I really am connected with Egyptian religion, and I do believe in the concept of Ma'at. (She is the personification of truth, justice, order, and she keeps the universe in order!)

In ancient times, like in Egypt, Greece, and Rome, the people could worship freely and even adopt Gods and Goddesses from other traditions. Just because a different story, Deity, or ritual was introduced, it didn't cancel out the validity of the older ways. Instead of switching within the religion, they simply added more to their own beliefs.

Also, the word Pagan means something along the lines of "from the country." Most Pagans are not tied to agriculture as closely as they were in the past, so now they're urban.

Sure there are lots of different types of Pagans. An eclectic gathers and uses knowledge from several different world religions. They may use any mix of Hoodoo, Zen, Western, Greek, Shamistic, etc. religions. I've never heard the term Urban Pagan before. Perhaps it means a Pagan who must modify his/her religion to fit into life in the city.

Eclectic is a term than means a person believes in something, in terms of religious belief, but doesn't take any given religion as being the one and only last word. I'm eclectic. But I lean towards Philosophic Taoism.

That's not considered Pagan. Don't ask me what the differance is. I believe Pagan basically refers to polytheism.

An eclectic pagan is one who basically has incorporated may different religions and ideas into their path.

An urban pagan is one who isn't really very back-to-nature. They care about the environment, but they live in the city and like city life.

Being of The Lore, I would assume I might say I've been an eclectic Pagan since birth.

There are Neopagans with altars with Bhudda and Kwin Yan statues on them, with participants who chant "Om", recite Cabalistic formulas, while burning Native American smudge sticks...all the while saying they were practicing a Celtic religion! This kind of "ecclectic Paganism" is exactly the same thing Wiccans do.
