I was going about 45mph and there was this thump, thump sound coming from the right front. As I was driving, I accelerated a little more and the gauge went from 45mph to 90mph. But the car itself didn't move. It wasn't going anywhere when I would depress the gas pedal. I went to put it in park and it made a grinding noise. (as if I was driving a manual tranny and was trying to put it in first gear.) Even in park, I was rolling backwards. Is it my transmission? Maybe my axel?

It didn't make a popping sound at all. It just accelerated then stopped driving. It isn't moving now at all. You hit the gas and it just revs, doesn't move. Other than the tranny, are the other problems expensive?

It also sounds like the CV joint to me also. The gears have stripped out. You will want to replace the axles and joints. good luck.

I would say 80% that it's a broken CV shaft, easy enough to check, look under the car and see if the two shafts that run from the transmission to the front tires are still there. More than likely one of them is broken.

If they are both still there and connected, then it would most likely be the transmission.

Sounds like your torque converter may have went bad, if this is the case it will cost quite a bit to get it fixed. This really isnt a common problem, but It seems like the most probable cause.

Best of Luck!

Sounds like you broke an axel shaft, or blew the differential in the transmission...

Sounds to me like it was a CV Joint that may have broke....or yuo broke the axle...either way it has to be fixed before it will move.

If it's an automatic transmision check the fluid at operating temp.If it's to the proper level then your transmision may be on its way out.
