If the starter is completely gone, jumper cables won't help.

The alternator won't be affected with jumper cables unless you connect the terminals on backwards. In which case you can burn out the alternator. The alternator doesn't start generating electricity until the engine starts spinning.

Jumper cables are there to supply additional electricity to the starter motor when your current battery can't supply enough amperage to the starter motor.

If you starter doesn't work because the battery is too low, then yes jumper cables will work. If the starter is not working because it needs to be replaced, then no it won't work.

You can use jumper cables to start a car with a bad alternator, but your battery will probalby be really low, and you may not make it all the way home on a single jump. A better plan is to allow the car that is jumping you to run while the cables are connected to help recharge your battery before you attempt to start it. This way you have a better shot of getting it home or to a repair place before the battery completely dies again.

If the starter is bad, you can jump start it all day and it won't help. Jumper cables only supply an outside source of power to your battery. The alternator charges the battery and powers the electrical load when the engine is running. The starter motor physically rotates the engine until the ignition starts the engine. So to answer your quesntion. No.

if your starter is bad and the car starts that means its the starter selinoid. it will jump it if the alternator is bad but it want take long befor the car dies again. get the car started and take one of your battery cables off if the car dies then its the alternator. you might can just change the regulator on the car and see if the car begins to charge. the charging system is easy to figure out.

Yes but you won't get too far. It will only run while there is still a little charge left in the battery, even though not enough to start the engine.
