The only way to get good at a song is practice, practice, practice. Try sitting down for a half an hour everyday and practice one song at a time. Say, one song everyday. Just take it a little at a time, and by the time your lesson comes around, it should sound a lot better. Sometimes, working on your scales can help save some time too, it will help you get your notes down and your chords. good luck, as they say practice makes perfect. :-)

A song that sounds good to someone who minimizes practice will not sound decent to anyone who knows music. People who want to play well do more practice in a day than you probably do in a week.
I don't think you can game the system. You may think you are OK on a little practice and maybe even your mom thinks so but I bet your teacher cringes when she hears how you play.

I would like to eat 10 pounds of chocolate every day, and still lose weight. The answer to MY problem is the same as yours. SHUT UP AND STOP WHINING!!! You are lucky you Mom pays for your lessons, and supports you.
Yup - I am a professional musician, a piano competition judge, a teacher since 1971 - and a MOM - of a kid who is now 27 years old, who has a degree in piano (let's be fair - his Dad is also a fine professional pianist), and is working on his Master's degree.

practice is the only way unless you're naturally gifted.
You might want to look into "fake books" that get you to playing songs faster, but it's not true keyboardsmanship.
