The netherlands has very few drug laws, and they have the fewest number of hard drug addicts in Europe, and the most hard drug addicts in rehab in Europe. Cannabis doesnt have to be taken with tobbaco, and although it has carinogens in it that can cause cancer, the THC means that altogether smoking grass (obviously tobacco does counteract this) means you are thirty percent LESS likely to get cancer, as THC kills weak (eg cancerous) cells only. Noone has ever died of cannabis overdose, and it doesnt affect intelligence in the long term. THC does mean that brain damage is (slightly) more likely, but cannabis also has CBD in it, which is better at preventing brain damage than most perscription drugs, so if cannabis was legal strains could be made that actually reduce the chance of brain damage. Also the argument about stronger cannabis being available is poor - just like vodka being up to 12 times stronger than beer you just drink less of it. tobbaco (should be class B if system was done properly) and alcohol should be class A if system was done properly) are both much more dangerous than cannabis, but the government makes money off them.

Go and do a in depth study regarding the harm cannabis and alcohol abuse could do to the human body and you would not ask questions like this. The difference between the two are only: With alcohol you could control a person, but with cannabis......., you should see a person out of control, it is worse than drugs. But cannabis are a very good medicine if prescribed and use under trick control. Do some reading on this subject or see your local doctor who would be able to educate you more in this regard.

it is not cool to be a rebel. it's simply a case of "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em". Laws are there for a reason. If cannabis gets re-classified to class B, then of course use will increase. not only will it be brought to our attention more but people will do it just because it's illegal and just because other people do it and don't seem to get caught. just look at the gun amnesty. as soon as that was launched, shootings went up dramatically. i knew a knife amnesty would be launched eventually and started fearing for the lives of myself and family/friends because I knew stabbings would increase as soon as the amnesty would begin, and I was spot on. The government has not got it right. If they had strict laws in the first place, we wouldn't have as much trouble.

Prohibition with alcohol has never been tried in the UK.
First, use of cannabis is not safe. First, if you smoke it, you have to use tobacco with it which increases your risk of lung cancer, emphysema, heart disease, impotence and premature aging of your skin. (Well, I have been told you need to add tobacco to smoke it...)
My personal view is that in moderation, cannabis use carries little harm for most people. Like most things, if used to excess it is harmful. Both cannabis and alcohol are harmful to mental health, but cannabis use is the bane of those who are trying to help those with mental health problems as use of it makes the drugs that make people get better ineffective.
I think that the government has got this right though. Although cannabis can cause harm, those with conditions like MS find it helpful. Besides, alcohol kills and harms much more people in the UK than cannabis, not just through its direct effects, but also through accidents, drunk driving and alcohol related violence.

Personally, i don't think that decalsifying it made ppl stop using it because it want as rebellious. I think it was more that they thought that if it is only class C, it isnt as much fun as it wouldnt make you as high. for some, more legal= less fun
