Scarcity. Why do diamonds cost more than water, when they are essentially useless but pretty? It's basic economic theory. Not everyone has the face or the ability, so those that do are compensated heavily for them. A rare resource is always more expensive than a proliferate resource.

I think it's okay. I mean it's all about capitalism and all. If we didn't love the movies and such so much, then we wouldn't go to them, and the demand for them would be less and they would therefore be paid less. Also, movies are so high tech these days that seriously they are just going to get better and better and be more and more costly which makes it more and more important that the actors and actresses are good and that means more money. I mean right? Anyhow, I don't know why there is such a demand for sports and music I mean you can only improve those so much.

That is our warped sense of values in America. These people in do not make the world a better place through entertaining others. They merely offer an escape.
It is not OK that an actor who is a total sloth on society makes 20 million for repeating lines over and over in a movie while a hardworking teacher may make $35,000 year. Who is changing America for the better and really contributing to our society. And then these people have the balls to tell us how to live. That really frosts my cookies.
The only way to stop this is for everyone to stop buying CD's, stop going to games and watching them on Television, and stop going to movies and plays.

I think you are jealous. You work hard for your money and don't have much to show for it. Others are more fortunate. I heard a news report, today. J K Rowling, the author of Harry Potter books, when from dirt poor to a multi-billionaire in 13 years.
The good thing about the US: there is unlimited opportunity. We don't need million dollar entertainers, for sure. But someone is willing to pay them. I cannot argue with that.

If we ignore them, stop paying to go to movies and games, stop buying the products they endorse, etc., they would eventually lose money. But we just won't do that, so we are stuck with it.

Why shouldn't they make as much money as people are willing to pay them? I work with computers and that's what I do. If someone wanted to pay me 20 million for a few months work I would take it.
It's called free-enterprise.

people pay millions to watch their work. nobody pays to watch you or your husband work. if you don't like, stop watching movies and sports. the consumer is the one that makes those salaries what they are.
