I find myself getting "violation emails" for comments that disagree with the asker in a creative way. I think that YA is enforcing what they think "violations" are way too strictly.

It's kind of like big brother over your back.

I forgot to include this in there, I don't use any profane language, if I hadn't deleted those violation emails I could've showed you what I typed, and let you be the judge of whether it was offensive or not.

It's meant in a more humorous way, to change the boring answers that take a minute to speed scroll through, you know what I mean, the ones that NO ONE reads, and just gives a thumbs up to.

Nope... disagreements are what I feel "Answers" is all about.

Y!A has a good thing going here, they just need to investigate some of the "reports" to find that it's being used as a way to "get even". I'd bet that's not what Y!A intended.

The main difference is that Big Brother was the government. This is a voluntary service that you are choosing to operate under. If you don't like the rules, you can either 1. tell that to Yahoo or 2. move to another site. There are other question sites. I won't defend the violation reports, but I do think that the claims of censorship and big brotherness confuse the issue.

Do some more research.
You get a violation notice the instant someone reports you and BEFORE an investigation is commenced. If you were actually found in violation, you'd know it. One of the things that happens is an account suspension.

I have only reported one person for a perverted, sexual abuse question. Actually very sick description of what he wanted done to himself, and I'm not easily shocked. Why would someone be on answers and report an opposing view? That's the fun of answers! We're all over the place with our opinions.

I only report racists and perverts who seem a little too fond of small children.

I've been reported quite a bit. Some I accept, because I know I deserve them, but the vast majority I protest because they're just BS. If you ask a snarky question, don't whine when you get a snarky response.

I don't even report the charmers who call me all kinds of horrible names and say things about my sexuality just because they can't hold their own in a debate. I think they're pathetic, but I don't report 'em - let the world see their stupidity.

I suspect it's the "creativity" that's getting you into trouble. I have no problem with people who disagree with me, but some people can't seem to do so respectfully. Name-calling, insults and profanity are a good way to get a violation notice.

some people do and its weak. I think thats one reason for so much conflict: people want eveyone to think they way they do. the RS people are the worst. sorry but they are. if youre not dedicated to the church and know the bible in and out and try to express yourself they report you-oh, and they have no sense of humor either. i hate that section.
iv'e reported people who sound like theyre trying to lure young kids into sex or make very violent comments/threats. thats all i ever report.

I've only reported two or three people since I've been on Yahoo, and that was because they were being racist trolls. I've chosen not to report other racists because I was pretty positive they weren't trying to provoke a fight.

I've never reported anyone for disagreeing with me. I think that's incredibly immature.
