Most people who vote do not vote based on platforms - they vote based on name recognition - a lot of people know fred from his TV shows

they are under the believe that he is in real life the wayhe is on TV and thats what they are looking for in their president - so they side with him - heck he could say anything he wants - so long as its close to the main stream he will be safe

The only person showing a REAL platform and calling for REAL change is Ron Paul. You can see the "lack" of coverage he is getting in the main stream media - why is that? probably because they are afraid that if his message gets out he will become known and people will vote for him

So they throw up the fodder - with a name like fred - to draw away from ron - this way he doesnt get the attention and people dont get to know his name - they realize that if people know RP name they will vote for him

Out of desparation...As a Democrat, I'm hoping with every fiber in my body that the cons embrace Fred Thompson as their candidate for President of the United States of America.

They're frightened. McCain's campaign is going down, Giuliani is seen as too liberal, Romney is seen as too weirdly religious, and the others have little recognition or depend on the fringes of their party. Republicans are worried they'll have no viable candidate and so are grapsing at straws here. Plus, they figure that an actor (as Reagan was) has a better chance of swaying a voting public which proved in 2004 that they're none too brilliant....

I hear ya. How can people be so easily duped as to believe in a person's character, when the intellectual thing to do is to consider their platform. One thing politicians never do is break campaign promises, especially when they say "read my lips" a couple of times, or waggle their fingers at the camera, but character.... well, you just can't count on that.

Because he has all the qualifications of the last great conservative president, Grampa Ronny.

He is a skilled liar - trained as an actor and a politician. That is all that matters to 'conservatives'.

I am not a political expert but without even knowing what he stands for platform wise. He seems very confident and strong that he can run a no nosense campaign and he seems to be very on the ballpersonaility wise. Ok we as the nation don't know what the skeletons or affairs in his closet may be.....

Because Americans vote on facade of substance. Further, at this point the GOP has no viable candidate.

He hasn't officially announced that he is running, so it would be dumb to have a platform already.

Because he's the only conservative running (or about to run).

And before the spooks start screeching - no, Ron Paul isn't a conservative. He's an anarchist.
