Did researchers misunderstand the divorce rate hyothesis?

did they mistakenly understand that the hypthesis was propensity toward divorce lies in the genes, when in the person stating may have meant Jeans?

They did not think that the propensity to divorce was genetic, but instead felt it was enivronmental.
