My car is a honda civic,I have just replaced my drive shaft on the driver's side about 2 days ago. I didn't have any problem until today. While on the freeway I heard a loud continous thumping noise coming from under my car. I heard it yesterday but only at low speeds and it wasn't that loud. The problem might be that I put in the axle wrong but i have checked it out and everything seems to be in place. There is nothing that comes close to touching the driveshaft. When my foot is on the gas pedal the noise stops for a bit but when I release it the noise comes back on. I don' know what the problem is and plus I will hear it too if I make a left turn. Is it the drive shaft or something else?

Your half shaft is definitley bad, I would replace it again, and soon. Also, try revving your engine while it is in park. observe how much the engine moves, if it rocks more than 1-2 inches, you probably have a bad motor mount, which causes your axle to go bad. The shaft you just installed should have a warranty, just get a free replacement.

Best of Luck!

WHEN YOU REPLACED YOUR FRONT DRIVE SHAFTS THE MECHANIC DID NOT INSTALL THE CORRECT LENGTH OF SHAFTS. THIS CAUSES THE UNIVERSAL JOINTS TO BIND WHILE TURNING. WHEN YOU PUSH ON THE GAS PEDAL THE FORCES FOR EXCELLERATING PULLS ON ONE HALF OF THE DRIVE SHAFTS AND ALLOWS SPACE SO THAT THERE IS NO BINDING OF THE JOINTS TO CAUSE THE THUMPING. OR MAYBE THE MECHANIC DID NOT FILL UP THE RUBBER BOOT, THAT COVERS THE JOINTS, WITH ANY GREASE. TAKE YOUR CAR BACK SOON. IF YOUR UNIVERSAL JOINTS BIND UP WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING IT WILL CAUSE YOU TO LOSE CONTROL OF YOUR CAR.

Sounds like a problem with the CV joints on the driver's side. Have it checked out before it becomes a very serious problem. good luck.

In addition to the answer from "crewchief", I would have the vehicle put on a mechanics rack and look for any loose bolts/nuts or anything that needs to be tightened
