when i listen to the news i don't feel so special

Rational thought is thought that is thought to be reasonable and rational therefore relative to the situation or environment. Our consciousness is a collective gathering of rationalities set forth by our experiences in our many environments throughout our lifetime. What makes us special is the same thing that makes each ping pong ball in the lottery barrel special. The probability that certain events (including our reactions to those events) took place when and where they did as well as our reaction and their time and places.

First, I will give you fact, and I will finish with my theory.
We have brains with electrical charges darting between brain cells, which in turn stimulate our thought processes. Our brains are responsible for all of our thought--conscience and unconscience (dreams) and for all of our rational and irrational thought.
Now for the theory: We all have souls!!! I believe the type of soul we posses is responsible for our thoughts, and each soul is individual and belongs to God. Our souls and how they manage our brains to function, and our individual fingerprints and footprints are what make each individual unique. I also believe that our hearts are germain to the soul's needs. May God bless you.

Your premise needs to be better articulated.
Any house pet can generate the same results (such as an EEG or MRI) that is often called consciousness in humans. Feeling species is an arrogance of our species that leads to all sorts of death and destruction.

our brain is able to discern between different choices,
and because nothing else is in charge i would say that you are your brain.
because of this i will replace the word brain with the word you.
brain=you.
therefore you are responsible for your consciousness and rational thought.^_^
