A good thing to know about the Orleans, is that they will price match the best rate that you can find online for their hotel.
http://www.orleanscasino.com
I find the best rates for the Orleans are usually on this site, that is if the Orleans has not already matched them

For an awesome view, ask for a room on the 16th - 19th floor that faces East, this would be a room ending in 02-44(even numbers) - IMHO these rooms have the most incredible panoramic view of the strip of any hotel in LV. 02 is at the end of the hall, 44 is near the elevators, I prefer in the middle(24-30-28-etc)
Orleans buffet - this is one of the very best value buffets in all of LV(#3 IMHO)>for lunch & dinner
Breakfast - $6.95
Lunch - $8.95
Dinner - $13.95
Steak night - $14.95/Wednesday
Sunday brunch - $13.95
Seafood buffet - $17.95/Monday
You save $1 on each buffet with your players card(Club Coast)
The Courtyard Cafe has some of the very best specials in LV
Biscuits & Gravy - $1.95
Eggs & Bacon or Sausage - $2.45
Pancakes & Ham + Eggs - $2.45
Ham & Eggs + Hashbrowns & Toast - $3.45
Steak & Eggs + Hashbrowns & Toast - $3.45
Terrible Mike's serves very good hamburgers - $4.95 for a burger/fries & drink with your funbook coupon that they will give you when you check in. They have a "fixins" station, so that you can doctor up your burger just the way you like.
The Prime Rib Loft is one of the best steakhouses in LV(for the $$)
Subway - the usual
There are like 11 restaurants to choose from.
Terrible's Wine & Liquor has great prices
The Orleans has an 18 screen movie theater
a 70 lane bowling alley, an arcade, Kids tyme(for the little ones).
We go to LV 2-3 times a year for 2 weeks or more at a time and have for over 20 years. We spend at least a week or two each year at the Orleans.
The Orleans is a little more than a Mile west of the Strip on Tropicana. They have a free shuttle that runs approximately every 20 minutes to and from the strip(Bill's Gamblin Hall) and one that runs about every 10 minutes to and from the Gold Coast. Plus there is one that runs a circle route from the Orleans to Gold Coast to the Strip. The CAT #201 Bus stops right in front of the Orleans($1.25 one way or $2.50 for a 24hr pass, you can ride the Deuce with this pass but they will charge you an extra .50c and give you another pass)
The Orleans is also one of the very best casinos in LV when it comes to future free(comp) room offers. If you stay at the Orleans and play, even a little bit, you can expect free room offers in the future. HINT>sign up for separate slot club accounts, that way both of you will get, two free night offers, 4 free nights is better than 2!!

The Orleans is a pretty nice place about 2.5 miles west of the Strip on Tropicana. The rooms are fairly decent and are large enough for a small seating area. The coolest feature is the window in the bathroom actually opens! That is unheard of in Vegas these days.
There is a good collection of restaurants and they are all affordably priced. They have some really good deals in the coffee shop and the buffet is very good especially for the price. The Prime Rib Loft has gotten some good reviews and it is also very affordable.
The main drawback to staying there is the location. Like I said earlier, it is a ways off the strip while walkable, I wouldnt recommend it as a way to spend your Vegas time. They do have a shuttle to the Gold Coast, which is next to Rio but its still not on the strip. If you have a car, its an excellent choice. If not, you definitely need to take the location into consideration.
The Orleans website has menus for their restaurants with prices you can check that out and I also have room pics on my website at...

The Orleans is a safe hotel, and very nice for families. It has a lot of kid-friendly activities that most other Vegas hotels do not. As for whether its restaurants take gift cards, I don't really know. There are a few fast food places nearby, and they will since they are stand-alone restaurants. On the strip, you can find a Cheesecake Factory (in the Forum Shops at Caesars), a Denny's, a McDonald's, a Subway...all separate from the resort food courts. They would all take gift cards.

I went there last January and LOVED it there.
The restaurants are a decent price. They have a buffet and when you check in they give you coupons for the buffet. They also have a steakhouse, grill with cheeseburgers and hotdogs and fries and stuff, chinese restaurant and sushi bar, a pub with food and a TGIFridays. you will get coupons to all the restaurants.
The most expensive was the steakhouse and the prices for that were still decent.
You will love the Orleans. The rooms are the best you can get for the money and the casino paid out more than any other casino I visited.

I have taken my two kids for overnight visits 5 times or so. Food prices are very reasonable, and there is also a movie theater, bowling center, and kid's tyme, which costs about $5 an hour per kid, for kids under 12. There are discounts available in their funbook that you get when you register. By the way, I have never had a problem registering early, and there's never been a charge. Oh, and the swimming area is very small kid friendly, and still good for everyone else.
You have selected the best place in Vegas for kids.
