And some still have such laws on the books. The Crafts and some Circles survived in secret, but most of the "witchcraft" books published in the 18th to 20th centuries were written by biased Christians. Hand to hand and hand written or H3 was rule for bringing forward true knowledge of the crafts during that dark, but not murderous time. In the USA it was more a "look away lawman, while us good citizens get rid of the Witch." This was very prevalent in rural communities and even in some written rural law, and also in some cities statutes. All craft activity was prosecuted under Fraud and extortion laws, stores carrying Pagan supplies lost licenses and many times leases.

Some areas are trying to bring back such statutes. On Tarot reading and other mystical arts. Which is ridiculous. People should have the right to see a seer if they wish.

Not to mention it is part of some peoples religion and you have, at least in the US the right to practice your religion without being harassed by the law.

I have nothing against protecting people from fraud, but you have to be careful of the thin line. Educate people, it works better then enacting bad laws.

And there is nothing wrong with Witchcraft. It is often maligned because of unfounded fears, and superstition

if the information was not known a person just has to ask what happened to non worshippers of God. add all the djinn or demons and look at the similalarity to Christian religion. and the bit about there being only one God. still for all that belief in God was no surety of safety could still be killed for not being Godly in the way accepted by someone else. or various gruops fought over who got to control the message of God essentialy fought over God's messanger service. so it would have been better if all those who said God was it came to a compromise and united under the symbols each had and incorporated the thing called witchcraft as well. it has already been done to an extent Santeria it is called.

You seem to be forgetting that the law in England used to prosecute people who claimed magical powers was also used to prosecute people who accused others of having magical powers. It wasn't illegal to be a witch or use witchcraft. It was only illegal to claim it on the understanding that it was all superstitious nonsense anyway.

There are still people killed for accusations of Witchcraft, especially in Africa. I have met many people (Wiccans) in the United States that are afraid of letting their religion out in the open for fear of their personal safety as well.
