Have you heard Band of Horses? They're similar. It's tough with My Bloody Valentine. They are kind of like Pavement where they were so on their own trip that there are bands that jive with that sound, but don't necessarily sound like them.
Maybe:
Built to Spill
Broken Social Scene
Mogwai
Unwound
Band of Horses

maybe...
Medicine or Spiritualized

I really like Mogwai a lot. I'm just starting to actually plow through the records more thoroughly (I used to just grab tunes from my friends computer in sampler cds and I alway took a Mogwai tune and always liked them. They pretty much represent to me what I always hoped Godspeed!, great as they are, would do more of.)
That same friend of mine recomended the Band of Horses record. I really like it a lot.

I can't take credit, but these guys saying the Jesus and Mary Chain bring up a very good point.

I must say though, I can't speak to how good Medicine is though. I just know I heard a track and thought they sounded kind of like My Bloody Valentine.
Spiritualized is awesome. Live at the Royal Albert Hall is a great record.

They were a very loud version of a shoegazer band. Though Sonic Youth were more punk, I think they are similar in terms of being both loud and melodic.

Good shoegazer bands to check out include Jesus and the Mary Chain, Catherine Wheel, Lush, Ride, Kitchens of Distinction and Curve.

Like others have said Lush and The Jesus and Mary Chain are similar... I think Love Spirals Downwards is very similar also.

AND

As far as a more modern band, I find The Cranberries to be similar.

Wow!! I "heart" My Bloody Valentine!!

As other answerers have said, definitely check out Lush (I heart them, too!), Mogwai, the Jesus and Mary Chain.

They're a tough sound to duplicate - very, very unique - and that's why they ROCKED!

You can also check out Mazzy Star (Hope Sandoval has such a dreamy voice!), Madder Rose (hard to find - but WORTH IT!!) Bettie Serveert, or even Uncle Tupelo. None of these really come close to capturing MBV, but they're worth listen anyway.

I better take this one since I minored in shoegazer.

Medicine - I just asked a freaking question about this band earlier in the week and was greeted with a collective "DUH" of silence. This band is closest to MBV in terms of noise and sound.
Lush
Ride
Chapterhouse
Catherine Wheel - old material
Bowery Electric - Sort of like isolation chamber music, but in a good way.
Ultra Vivid Scene
Revolver - The band, not the Beatles album.
