I'm sorry guys I KNOW mixup was mine. WHAT I MEANT was how do you do the gridding on THE FABRIC? Not on the pattern which i know already. Thank ALL who answered my earlier question.

Use sewing thread in a contrasting color (like hot pink) and baste lines down the vertical length of the fabric and also across the horizontal part. Spaces the lines ten fabric spaces (10 aida squares or 20 linen/evenweave threads) apart in both directions so you end up with a network of boxes, each 10x10, which should correspond to whatever pattern you're using. Be warned, the gridding part will take some time!

I just use the iron on dots. You can iron on a whole sheet at a time, and in some cases even re use the sheet several times.
Just make sure you straighten the fabric first, and get the grid on straight.

To straighten the fabric, grasp the two opposite corners and pull, then repeat with the other two. To verify it is straight, tear off one end or pull the threads until you get a thread that goes straight across. That is your measure line.
