I think the term "soulmate" sounds rather like a fairytale. It's not as if your soul is incomplete without its mate. I think there are people who understand each other down to their souls, but "soulmate" sounds too much in the same realm as fantasyland or astrology.
I think someone's significant other should understand the other like no other.
I wish I had that.

To steal what someone else said earlier, I think a kindered spirit could be an accurate description of a dear friend.
But your life partner is your soulmate. And you don't just have to have only 1 soulmate. This is a huge planet with a ton of people, there are more than one similar minded individuals on this 3rd rock from the sun.

I guess that depends. Some people think your soulmate doesn't have to be someone you are romantic with. It could be someone who just completely gets you. I would have to put a definition on one first. I think it could definetly be someone other than your significant other. I personally think my soul mate is my best friend, but I have no romantic feelings towrd her. We just get eachother in a way no one else can. We have had similar life exeriences and time on our sides. However, it doesn't meant that I don't love my bf any less.

My soulmate is the man that recently broke up with me because we have trouble communicating on important issues. He is now getting ready to move out of state and will be taking my heart in the palm of his hand. I have never felt a connection like this with any man and I am well into adulthood!

We are married and have called one another "soulmates", but since he's cheating with another, how could I still be his soulmate? Is he still mine?

Yes. I was with someone for 7 years and I loved him. But there was this guy I met a year after him in college that I just could not shake and still can't. I would always think about him when i was with my bf. After we broke up is when i started to see him. There is this unspoken attraction (not just physical) that we just accept. It's very strange. No matter how hard I look for someone else, no one is him.
