I am can connect my PC to my dad's wireless network, which he uses for his laptop, it says i am connected, but it is "Acquiring Network Address" so when i try and go on internet explorer all it says is page cannot be displayed. Am i talking poo or does someone know what i'm doing wrong?

yeah, that means it is verifying the IP address, and WEP key!
you need to have the correct WEP key, or whatever security is placed on it!

Have you at any point set a static ip address for comp games or downloading torrents. You would need to take it off static if using a different internet connection. otherwise it could be many things. good luck

network is probably runing WEP encryption. You need the "key" to get full access AND/OR he has MAC address filtering enabled. In which case you need to enter your MAC address into the wireless router.

WAIT A MINUTE - I'VE GOT IT!....

See if your wireless network is static IP or dynamic IP.

My guess is static, but your PC is waiting to be given an IP.

depending on how many computers are allowed maybe yours is too many ? or you need to be allowed access, or the internet is down ( the wireless network wills till be working )

It sounds like the router's security is keeping you off.

Check with your dad as he would know the security you have and how to enable you to access it.

You need the passkey (WEP) to get the internet its normally either set by the admin or it will be on the router somewhere.

that happened to me as well it's something wrong with your ip address try resetting you router coz that is what i did and guess what it works :)

Turn off your computer and cable modem and then turn them on again. That should solve it
