I'm just courious what others think about the spelling police and the belittle people. Why do YOU think they are out there? Lets see how many belittle people come out of the woodwork from this question.

belittle: make seem less significant: to reduce or dismiss the importance or quality of somebody or something.

Personally, I think that proper spelling and grammar are important and a sign of respect toward your readers, but for people to simply answer a legitimate question with an attack on the inquirer is rude, in my opinion. Some people have learning disabilities, are young, or don't access to the same educational opportunities as "belittlers" might have had.

I think it shows us something about the character of the belittler in the tone of their response. Maybe they were being flippant towards what they perceived as being a flippant question, but in general, if I think a question is a joke, I just give it the benefit of a doubt. I don't see any point in making someone feel bad, just because I can.

In general, though, I wish people whose first language actually is English would take better care to write in clearer English. I think colloquial (slang) English is one thing, but sloppy, crappy nonsensical stuff is annoying, as is reading stuff that looks like it was texted in. I know there are a lot of people here for whom English is a second language (as it is for me) and I imagine it's even harder for them to try to learn proper English reading stuff here.

FYI: Technically, there are two words spelled incorrectly in your question: "courious" should be spelled "curious" and "Lets" should be spelled with an apostrophe, since it's a contraction of "Let us" and therefore be "Let's."

I try not to belittle people, but I can't stand it when someone is criticizing someone else and can't spell or write correctly. LIke, you misspelled "curious," for example, and there should be an apostrophe in "let's," never mind the "belittle people." Although you gave a definition of "belittle," you didn't note that it's a verb, not an adjective, and that's how you're using it. Do you want me to ignore that? Misspellings and grammatical errors give the impression that the person isn't very smart. Now, why should we care about the opinion of someone who's not very bright? If you want to make your point, you need to seem like you're somewhat intelligent or nobody will care about what you have to say. Good spelling and grammar give that impression. That makes sense, right? I agree with you, Shelcom, but "misspelled" isn't supposed to be hyphenated.

Don't know about belittling people.

As far as spelling there is a spell check built into this program. all you have to do is hit the button.

People come here asking for advice, Most of the time the best advice is Learn how to communicate, learn how to get along with others, learn to think before you do stuff, have some common sense.

The problem with misspellings and difficult to understand questions (because of poor sentence structure, bad spelling, and incorrect grammar) is that people can't answer a question that they might really want to answer.

Honestly, it took me a minute to figure out what you were asking. I wanted to answer your question, but I first had to figure out what you wanted to know!

People who value good grammar and spelling get frustrated when faced with people who don't seem to care. And the problem with people not caring about good spelling, grammar, and sentence structure is that we cease to be able to communicate with one another. Not being able to communicate and understand is a recipe for disaster in any society.

PS: You would call a person who belittles others a belittler, and no, I don't think that is a nice thing to do under any circumstance.

Because if you are going to ask a question and want a well informed answer, then you should at least spell it correctly. Little errors are obviously no big deal but some people just make a mess out of things. The worst part about it is that Answers has spell check it seems that nobody uses it.

I think you should only ask each question once, but hey, I got 4 points from you for it, so I'll let you slide without too much belittlement you idiot.

Hey, I said not too much, I didn't say none.

*Sigh*

The word is still spelled, "Curious."

At least if you're going to post the same question over & over, correct the typos!

:-))))
