Hi, i was wondering if the fuel to refill a zippo lighter has to be made by zippo or if a substitute like Ronsonol is ok.

It is ok

Any kind of liquid lighter fluid is OK for the original Zippo design lighters. The liquid fuel for Jonnie Warmers is also OK.

If you are refilling one that uses a gas, make sure you are using the right kind of gas. Most are butane but there are a few foreign made odd-balls out there that use a different gas. Use the wrong gas and it could get very interesting very fast.

Any grocery store, convenience store or smoke shop should carry butane fluid. Finding Zippo fluid, which Zippo recommends over other butantes, might be slightly tougher but it sill should be readily available.

Just don't use butane. Use lighter fluid.
Ronsonol is fine, but Zippo burns cleaner.

My brother and Dad have zippos and they both refill it up with Ronsonol.

I hope that helps

I use Rosonol in my Zippo. I can't see paying more for the same type product.
