A couple of months ago I was playing in a football tournement when my knee suddenly started making a clicking noise whenever I lifted my leg to run. It was also quite painful when it clicked.
Since then it is no longer painful, however very stiff and I am almost finding it impossible to kneel or cross my legs and sometimes it starts clicking again. It is now very swolen because of a huge amount of fluid covering it.
I have been advised by a physiotherapist to not take part in any sporting activity, and he has set me exersises to do every day. But he told me that he couldn't identify the problem because of the large amound of fluid covering it.
Can any one tell me what the problem is likely to be and how serious it is? Thanks in advance if you can.

I would suggest going to an orthopedic surgeon or getting a referral from your family doctor to an orthopedic surgeon. They should be able to drain the fluid (trust me it's painful, but may be basically to figure out what's wrong without an exploratory surgery), do x-rays and or an MRI and hopefully be able to figure out what is wrong. To me it sounds like it could possibly be a misalignment of the knee or the knee cap. Depending on the injury it could be serious or just an injury that needs to physical therapy and time to heal. Good luck, and go see your doctor soon!

The only answer is to go to a doctor. He can drain the knee and then possibly find what is wrong. Most likely it is Cartilidge causing the noise. Perhaps arthroscopic surgery will be needed. This quite an easy operation and it will lay you up for about a week. You only have a finite amount of cartilidge in your joints. When it goes, it is gone for good. I have two replacement knees now but I went through just about every gimmick known to man to fix my knees. SEE A DOCTOR.

You need to have it X-rayed. Only an x-ray or MRI can look inside to see what the problem is. It sounds to me like your cartilage has worn away and the clicking noise that you're hearing is bone rubbing against bone. But, like I said, without at least an X-ray, you're not going to know. You need to see a true medical doctor, not a physical therapist, in order to be diagnosed correctly and the longer you wait to see a real doctor, the worse your knee is going to get.

if you go to an orthopedic doctor, they can drain your knee for you to get rid of the fluid. after that you will probably have to get x-rays and probably a MRI. they should be able to diagnose the problem after that. good luck though!

Get yourself some liquid glucosamine. You have probably heard of GLS for fixing joint problems naturally and it does work but the liquid form is more potent and readily absorbed by the body. It works much faster and better.
