I mean Bronson is a decent pitcher, however in my opinion he has only had one solid season in his career and that was last year. No way is he worth Saltalamacchia. Are they friggin' out of their mind? He would be a good pickup for the Braves in their back-end rotation but definitely not worth offensive power like Salty. Bronson is NOT worth top tier prospects. Definitely not. The Braves could get a waaaay better pitcher, otherwise no deal. I'm not interested in the Braves selling the future for crappy pitchers.

I would have to agree with you, a move like that is not going to make them a better team now or in the future.

You are VASTLY underestimating the value of starting pitching. Quality starters will always hold alot more value on the trade market than position players. Good starting pitching is just too hard to find. Currently almost every team in contention needs pitching help, but much fewer need bats.

The Braves would do that deal in a heartbeat, believe me. The problem is that the Reds probably want more than Salty right now. Everyone right now is asking for Escobar AND Salty for a #1 or #2 starter, to give you an indication of where the market is. That is a bit much.

You are also underestimating Arroyo. Keep in mind he has always pictched in very hitter-friendly parks. Bronson would pitch much better out of that launching pad in Cincy and with better D behin him (when Dunn is shagging flies your D stinks).
While he isn't a #1, in ATL he would be the #3 behind Smoltz and Hudson. He certainly is a fine #3.
Salty is certainly a gem of a prospect. Switch-hitting catchers with bats like his are rare indeed. The Braves will move him though for Arroyo or someone equivalent straight-up, and they would be making the right move in doing so (contract issues aside -- not sure where Arroyo sits there).

Very interesting. Say it ain't so. I think the Braves are facing some real interesting questions with the kids. Y Escobar is a big leaguer but where - Chipper lives at third (when healthy), Renteria has SS sewed up, K Johnson is also a proven hitter and hard worker at 2B. Same for WIllie Harris and Matt Diaz. Both can hit. I'd trade Diaz to the AL - he'd be a great DH. K Johnson could move back to the OF with Harris splitting time in left and give Escobar 2B - gotta love that bat. They have been playing Saltalamacchia at 1B some but personally, I'd just hand him Catcher and move McCann to 1B. McCann is such a pure hitter, gotta want him long term so I'd protect those knees. These are some good young players who with the trade deadline looming could bring much needed pitching help but ....... I'd definitely keep Salty and McCann and Escobar. I'd try to keep both Harris and K Johnson but if the deal was right, either could go.

The Braves should keep Salty at least for this year. Maybe try McCann at 1st. Or put Salty in Right. They will need an OF w/ Jones leaving after this year. The Braves have enough pitchers and are good at bringing up young pitchers and making the most of their talents.

If they are to make the trade they should take Dunn w/ Arroyo.
