How many people honestly believe the government is planning to stage a terrorist attack on the US?

I am curious about this, really. A visit to the Democratic Underground website convinced me that there are those who take this possibility seriously.

I do not. But I'm curious as to who does, and also as to what others think of those people. Thanks.

To those who believe this is true, I ask you:

Has it ever occured to you that the terrorists themselves plant this propaganda, or ultra liberal factions do, so that even if, God forbid, another terrorist attack occurs, either way, the USA loses and these propagandists win by making you fools believe their writings?

I'd have to weigh in on the, "are you kidding me?" side.

For crying out loud. It seems that some folks have seen far too many movies and have bought into somewhat of a hyper-reality when it comes to the government.

Considering the fact that Harry Reid can't keep his highly profitable land deals in Las Vegas a secret, Congressman William "the Refrigerator" Jefferson can't keep a few dollars a secret and Sandy Burglar was widely exposed for his efforts at the National Archives...what makes anybody think that such a conspiracy as a terrorist attack could be kept secret between more than one person.

Perhaps a few people will claim to believe such a thing because they think that saying so scores points against Bush, but those who truly see the black helicopters from time to time amount to less than .001% of Americans.

I do. And, I believe they are in the advanced stages of planning such an assault with people pretty well trained and almost in place along with equipment and resources needed. After all, when could you ever trust these people, and besides, look at how much money and other resources they have. I think it's inevitable that such an attack is coming because more and more people are seeing that this government is corrupt to the core with their crazy, religious leader spouting off his ridiculous religious beliefs at every opportunity. In addition, such an attack will likely work to the current rulers advantage since a certain segment of the citizenry will be galvanized by such an action and patriotism will become intense. There is no doubt in my mind that a terrorist attack by the government of Iran is coming. You just wait and see.

I think it very likely that the US govt will fake a terrorist attack -- in the sense of making a big show of "foiling a plot" to draw attention away from what else they're doing and to justify their agenda. The recent announcement of "terrorists more likely than ever to attack" is just the prelude, like Chertoff's "gut feeling" was.

I don't think they'll go so far as to actually inflict harm on American lives or property. It gains very little over the first choice, and it exposes them to massive risk if the truth were discovered.
