why do people only clap for there friends? or dont even clap at all has karaoke outdone its time in america

depends on whether you are there for the show or there just to drink. I love to sing and know that even when drunk it takes a bit of courage to get up there so I clap for everyone whether I know them or not.

I don't think it has outlived its welcome, I believe it has lost some popularity though... we'll see how the new game show affects it

You should come to my favorite karaoke bar- Armida's, here in Denver. It is awesome- everyone is so polite and happy, and they all clap for everybody, not just their friends. I've done karaoke in other places like the ones you're describing, and it always makes me feel sort of insignificant and self-conscious. But at Armida's I feel like everyone there is my friend by the end of the night- and it's a good place to go if you want to feel like a star!!!
