It's been well-established now that the media are full of liars (see my previous question, "Why don't people trust the media?")

But I want to hear some actual examples of those lies. How many media lies can you name, off the top of your head? Go.

Well, the Media repeated ad nauseum what they were told by the Bush administration without researching it...

Weapons of Mass Destruction
Connection of Iraq to Alqueida before Iraqi invasion

Does that count?

No? How about sensoring the news to be acceptable to its sponsors REPEATEDLY and firing reporters who voiced opposition? I guess that isn't lying... but it surely does destroy your credibility.

That is a very interesting comment by urbanbulldogge on Kobaincito's point. I happen to take the opposite viewpoint and think that Kobaincito is right on the mark with his observations. I do not have any agenda but that sets up an interesting dilemma. It is obvious that my news sources or at least my interpretation of my news sources is different from urbanbulldoggs. If the two of us were to sit down and compare notes, I am afraid that we would most likely look with disdain on each other's news sources so the question becomes if the truth is out there somewhere, where and how do we go about finding it. We as citizens have an obligation to do some real research and that is no easy task. I know I did not answer your question but I just wanted to point out that it is not just a black and white issue of the media lying but a question also of in that case where do we look for the truth and finally, what attitudes should we assume in our pursuit of the truth.

-The media overwhelmingly misquoted Mahmoud Ahmedinejad on his comment about ending the Zionist regime. The quote "wipe Israel off the map" is simply false.
-the media lied about the causes of the Israeli invasion of Lebanon. Anyone who follows Israeli affairs knows that the Israeli army abducts people from both Palestine and Lebanon and that the abduction of the soldiers was a response to a chain of provocations.
-The US media lies about the reasons the US is an Islamist target.
-The US media misrepresents nationalist insurgents in Iraq as "terrorists".
-The US media lied about the state of affairs in Kosovo before the invasion.
-The US media lies about the effect of the US embargo on cubans and the real life of non-dissident cubans.
-the US media lies about the reason N.Korea is so eager to defend itself. The US has been conducting noisy military games on the DMZ for 50 years.
-the US media concealed the Iran-COntra affair and the nature of the terrorism te US paid for in Nicaragua.
-the US media lies about the effect of drugs. Particularly Dr. GUpta of CNN, who is under Merk payroll.
-The US media lies about the benefits of single payer.
-The US media lies about the extent of executive privileges.
-The US media lies about its intentions. It claims it is there to inform. The US media is the mouthpiece of US corporations. The product they sell is YOUR attention. Their customers pay so that you hear their favorite lies.
