It is well known to the entire world that Yoga was born in India from thousands of years & spread that knowledge to the rest of the world. But US govt is trying to get the Patent rights of Yoga.
Isn't this insane?

I know there is a patent fight going on over something called "Bikram Yoga" which is yoga done in rooms heated to 100 + degrees Fahrenheit.

Apparrently, a few different "Yogis" have claimed to have "invented" the idea of doing it in a super-heated room. Two of them are from India, one is from Canada, one is from NYC.

So, you may have misheard or misunderstood.
The US Government ISSUES patents for things like this, it can't SEEK them.

The government doesn't hold patents, it issues them, so I'm thinking the rumor you heard got garbled somewhere along the way.

It /is/ possible to get a patent on an existing process, if you find a novel use for it, however, so someone might have tried that. Considering everything Yoga's been used for, I wouldn't think he'd have much of a chance, though.
