(1) multiply everything by 3 to get rid of the denominator:

2A/3 = 8 + 4A
3*2A/3 = 3*(8 + 4A)
2A = 24 + 12A

(2) Subtract 12A from both sides to isolate A on the left-hand side:

2A = 24 + 12A
2A - 12A = 24 + 12A - 12A
-10A = 24

(3) Divide by -10 to get rid of the coefficient of A:

-10A = 24
-10A/(-10) = 24/(-10)
A = -24/10 = -12/5 = -2 2/5

=============
Then it's a good idea to check the solution in the original equation

2A/3 = 8 + 4A
2(-12/5)/3 =? 8 + 4(-12/5)
-24/15 =? 8 + -48/5
-8/5 =? 8*(5/5) - 48/5
-8/5 =? 40/5 - 48/5
-8/5 =? (40 - 48)/5
-8/5 = -8/5

2A/3 = 8 + 4A deliver 4A on different ingredient of '=' this could make it -4A 2A/3 - 4A = 8 take LCM(that's 3) (2A- 3*4A)/3 = 8 (2A - 12 A)/3 =8 -10A = 8*3 -10A = 24 A= -24/10 A = -2.4

{2A/3 = 8 + 4A
-2A/3 -2A/3

{0 = 8+ -2A/3 + 4A
-8 -8

{-8 = -2A/3 + 4A - - -change the 4a to have the same common denominator as 2A/3

-8 = -2A/3 + 12A/3 - - - add the two together to get 10A/3

-8 = 10A/3
(3/10) * -8 = 10A/3 * (3/10)
-24/10 = A
-2.4 = A

2A/3 = 8 + 4A
to get rid of fractions, multiply everything by 3
3(2A/3) = 3(8) + 3(4A)
2A = 24 + 12A
subtract 12A from both sides
-10A = 24
divide both sides by -10
A = -24/10
reduce by dividing by 2/2
A = -12/5

2A/3 = 8 + 4A

multiply 3 for both sides to get rid of it
2A = 24 + 12A

subtrat 12A for both sides
-10A = 24

divide =10 for both sides
A = -12/5 or -2.4

2007-07-20 07:26:17 · answer #5 · answered by      7 · 1 0

multiply both sides by 3
2A = 3( 8+4A)
2A = 24 +12A
bring the like terms at one side
2A-12A=24
-10A=24
A=-24/10 or -12/5 or -2.4

2A/3 = 8 + 4A
multiply both sides of the equation by 3
2A = 24 + 12A
subtract 2A from both sides of the equation
0 = 24 + 10A
subtract 24 from both sides of the equation
-24 = 10A
divide both sides of the equation by 10
-2.4 = A

X both sides by 3:-
2A = 24 + 12A
- 24 = 10A
A = - 24/10
A = - 12/5

2A/3 = 8 + 4A
2A = 3(8 + 4A)
2A = 24 + 12A
2A - 12A = 24
- 10A = 24
A = 24 / - 10
A = - 2.4

Answer A= - 2.4

Proof:
2(- 2.4) / 3 = 8 + 4(- 2.4)
- 4.8 / 3 = 8 - 9.6
- 1.6 = - 1.6

2/3a = 8 + 4a
rewriting it:
-8 = 4a - 2/3a
-8 = 10/3a
multiplying thru by 3
-24= 10a
a = -2.4
