I don't know how many times I see people ask for reccomendations on where to dl free music legally and how many people respond "Limewire! It's legal" or Bearshare or the other file sharing sites. Do people not understand that in most cases, downloading music without paying for is illegal regardless of where you get it or what program you use.
Is everybody out there an idiot??
Quit giving people information that's going to cause them to do something illegal unknowingly!
Bottom line....There is NO place where you can dl free legal music except for some smaller artists looking to get their stuff played.

You are mistaken weeder. there are many places to legaly download free music from the web. Some records labels, and many artists have discovered thatby making a few songs from an new CD available for free and without DRM actually helps to sell the CD. This is usually considered an aspect of viral marketing. The band Twisted Sister made their entire last album downloadable from their website for free. The cd still sold quite well. It was a strange idea, Heavy metal versions of standard Christmas songs, and the CD sales went up after the mp3s were made available.

You are right, singers don't make squat on album sales. Many singers lose money by having too high of production costs including expensive videos and studio time. They end up owing the record label from the cash advance that the label gives the artist, which is to be used for production costs and living expenditures before the album is released. Then the album sales go toward paying that money back to the record company. Once the company gets its money back, the singers start getting their cut. I think the people who really get hurt are one hit wonder groups. The only way you can make a lot of money is by touring and selling merchandise. Album sales (for most groups) are just bonus money.
