For example: Let's say I had illegal pedos on my computer (which I don't) and I am browsing the Internet, can they view the files on my computer and come to my house through my IP address and arrest me? Does having a firewall or WEP connection do anything?

No, they cannot view files on your computer through the internet. It is illegal. What they CAN do is monitor child porn sites and trace your IP address to find out where you are. That is about all they can do without gaining possession of your computer. That said, once they've traced you, they can come to your house and confiscate your computer (so long as they get a warrant first). Then they can retrieve the files. And deleting them does not help. With the proper equipment they can retrieve even deleted files, and they do. Being that they do not actually access your computer itself through the internet, just retrieve the IP address, firewalls and such don't make any difference.

The police will not monitor your websites unless you are convicted of something worth monitoring your websites for. Your internet provider does log your activity though. Having a firewall and WEP is useless. They do not prevent your provider or the police from viewing your web activity. If someone were to sit in front of you house and knew what they were doing, they could break your WEP key and sniff your traffic in a matter of 10 minutes. Just be careful! Hope this helped.
