a 20yrs old girl i knew breifly hates me because i told her to go back to school and get a job after she had a baby. (the baby was older than 2yrs) the man treats her like crap and tells all his coworkers and "friends" (noone likes him) bad things about her but she cant see it. how am i worng in telling her to be progressive?

Sometimes it's not about the content of the message itself but how the message is delivered.

Did you elaborate on why you think she should do what you suggests? Did you do it with encouragement and compassion? Or did you spit it out like it left a bad taste in your mouth to say those words while giving her a look of contempt?

Be aware of your body language and facial expressions when you communicate. Sometimes, people can read your reactions when you didn't even realize you had one.

You are right and she is wrong.

She just hates herself and is scared of real life. Afraid of having to change. Afraid she might be a success after a little work. Afraid she'll have to dump her loser husband.

You are 110% right. Stick to your guns and don't feel bad for telling the truth.....sooner or later she will realize you are right....hopefully for her sooner.
