Hey there!

Here's the answer.

(t+4)/2=(t+4)/t --> Write the problem.
t(t+4)=2(t+4) --> Cross multiply.
t=2 Divide both sides by t+4.

Check the answer.

(2+4)/2=(2+4)/2 -->
6/2=6/2 -->
3=3, true.

So the answer is t=2.

Hope it helps!

If you just look at the equation, you notice that the left hand side is almost symettrical to the right hand side. Meaning:
(t+4)/2 = (t+4)/t....... (t+4)/2 = (t+4)/2. Your math teacher will not like this answer, but learning to eye ball some equations will take about 30 minutes off of your homework time!!! The answer is t = 2

(t+4)/2 = (t+4)/t
cross multiply
t(t + 4) = 2(t+4)
t^2 +4t = 2t +8
bring all the terms to the left hand side
t^2 +4t -2t-8 = 0
t^2 +2t -8=0
factor out this equation
the factors for t are 2,-4

verify the answer by plugging the values back in to the expression one at a time.

Divide by t+4, leaving 1/2 = 1/t, so t = 2

2007-07-20 13:59:41 · answer #4 · answered by John V 6 · 0 1

t (t + 4) = 2 (t + 4)
t² + 4t = 2t + 8
t² + 2t - 8 = 0
(t + 4) (t - 2) = 0
t = 2 , t = - 4

cross multiply

2t+8=t^2 +4t
8=t^2+4t-2t
8=t^2+2t
therefore: t^2+2t-8=0
solve the quadratic by factorisation

t^2+4t-2t-8=0
t(t+4)+2(t-4)
(t+2) (t-4) =0
t+2=0 t-4=0
t= -2 t=4

FActored = (t+4) (t-2)
t = -4
t = 2

multiply 1/(t+4) for both sides

1/(t + 4) * (t+4)/2 = 1/(t+4) * (t + 4)/t

1/2 = 1/t
t = 2

(t+4)/2 = (t+4)/t
cancel out the "(t+4)"
you left with: 1/2=1/t
reciprocal it: 2/1=t/1,
which equals: 2=t

if u can see it ,it yields a quadratic eqn.

t^2 + 2t -8=0

solve and u'll get -4 and 2 as the two roots... which u can also tell by looking at the eqn.

the answers: -4,2
