The answer is the square root of 50.

The x displacement is -3 - 4 = -7
The y displacement is 0 - (-1) = 1

The Pythagorean provides X^2 + Y^2 = Z^2
Thus, the distance Z = (7^2 + 1^2)^.5 = (49 +1)^.5=50^.5

d² = (- 3 - 4)² + (0 + 1)²
d² = 49 + 1
d² = 50
d = √50
Which may be expressed as:-
d = √(2 x 25)
d = 5 √2

if you plot the points you get a right triangle with the sides
7,1 and x. You are looking for x. The formula is a^2+b^2=c^2
in your case x will be c. therefore plug in the numbers.
7^2+1^2=C^2
49+1=50=c^2
c= sqt 50=7.071067............

distance formula:

d^2 = (x2 - x1)^2 + (y2 - y1)^2

d^2 = (-3 - 4)^2 + (0 - (-1))^2

d^2 = 49 + 1

d^2 = 50

d = sqrt(50)
