It means that you are not tied down with your capacity to love and be loved, you have room in your heart for many people, and you are open and non-restrictive with your feelings and sentiments. It is a good thing.

A "Free Spirit" is a person free of any encumbrance such as a deep religious or political persuasion or belief system. A person who is set free to explore their own mind and world.
Originally, back in the 18th century non-conformists were thought of as "Free Spirits" since they did not adhere to the set rules of the established church.
Non conformity therefore = a free spirit. Not hidebound by rules and regulations which stifle freedom of thought.
When people must dress in a particular fashion or style and follow a set of rules and principles governing their lives, they are not free. They must confirm.
Non confirmity is what allowed the American people to surge ahead and create the world richest ever nation. They tore up the rule book and got on with it. They're still doing it.
Meanwhile, back here in little old England, we have become a nation of conformists who fear for the worst and most of the adventure and freedom has been knocked out of our lives.
Confirmity is the death of a nation. It leads only to stagnation.
Be a free spirit and roam at will.

that they don't know what they are talking about as nobody is actually free in this world, the planet as become our prison as somebody else already replied your only free when your a spirit, and that maybe a optimistic presumption.
Have a baby ensure no contact with any education including pre school then you've made the first steps to giving a free spirit, only then would we begin to find out what we are really capable of before they tell us what to think and what not to

I think a free spirit only follows his/her own moral guide lines. Some of these guide lines may be in agreement with general social guide lines, but a free spirit is willing to get out of a social environment that may be holding down the ability of his/her expression and change that environment to make it more pleasing.

Depends. Someone could be considered a 'free spirit' when they act on a whim and do things without contemplation, like booking a flight to New Zealand for the next day.
I suppose you could call them the embodiment of the 'rolling stone...' proverb.

A free spirit is something I am working towards.
It is someone who lives their life as they see fit and doesn't do things just because everyone else does.

When people call you a "free spirit", it means that no one controls, you are the only owner of yourself, and your heart is dominant over your head. In other words, it's very important for you to do what YOU want to do in your life, not what others or society tells you that you have to do.
In other words, you do what you feel like doing, what you want, not what you have to or are supposed to do.
That's good :)
