Spousal & child abuse are at epidemic levels, why the concern over a few gays getting married?

Because its a great issue to keep voters motivated instead of the fact that our economy is falling apart around us or that we're in a losing war. Gay Marriage, Abortion, and Gun Control are smoke screen issues. In elections both sides debate about it and then take sides and state their platforms, but once elected, no one does ANYTHING about those issues. Because they are BS, they don't matter, and they are "hot buttom" items that people have strong personal beliefs on.
How many people died on Sept 11th? About 3,000 right? How many people die each year of drunk driving? Over 16,000. As a nation we have spent more money on one year of the war on terror than we have in the history of drunk driving prevention. Think about THAT.
Elections and "issues" are what politicans use to control what the american people are "suppose" to think about, not what we SHOULD think about.

What two or more mature, mentally capable consenting adults do privately is of no concern to me. They can practice poligamy, gay or lesbian relationships, S&M, whatever. It is not my concern.

I somewhat reject same-sex marriages out of religious convictions, but, my religious convictions are personal and private. I cannot, and will not try to impose my beliefs on anyone. I simply believe everyone should respect marriage as a union between a man and a woman.

That said, if a man finds himself in a reciprocated love relationship with another man, or a woman finds herself in the same situation, and the pair wish to form a union, why, pray tell, should anyone object? If a church wishes to bless that union, let it be so. Religion is the creation of man according to what man believes God wishes. Hence, religion is a personal matter between the individual and God. Nuf Sed.

All human beings should concern themselves with protecting the weak and innocent. Domestic abuse, and especially child abuse, should be fought to the greatest possible extent. A mature, physically and mentally capable individual can find the way to remove themselves from an abusive situation. Typically, children cannot. All children have the right to be cared for and loved. I can't say adults have that same right, but children damn sure do.

Domestic violence is wrong and illegal but i don't think gay marriage should be illegal and i also think that the senators who vote for no gay marriage are homophobic and probably if you get a few beers in em and then "I have an anouncement to make"

As a gay american... I Say that Domestic Violence is a silent killer... my brother killed his wife and son and committed suicide... no one did anything for their situation because some cops thought it was no big deal.... I think that we also have to look at the growing issue of gay domestic violence... we barely recognize gay relationships, what about those that are violent? Who is going to help those people?

There are a lot of things that are big problems here, but are overlooked because I think they've been problems for so long no one expects a change. A lot of people are just stuck in the past and think gay marriage is wrong so they're disgusted by it, but they may think it's ok to beat your wife "if she really deserves it". I think it's mostly the older generations (who have then taught the younger ones, of course) that are so intimidated by it. It's crazy. Who is it hurting for gay people to get married?

You are pretending that there is no violence in a gay relationship. Gays are increasing the domestic violence rate as we speak. Domestic violence does not mean that a couple is married. LIBERAL PROPAGANDA at its best here.

Allowing homosexuals threatens the sanctity of marriage, which is the bedrock of human civilization.

So says Senator David Vitter, Republican of Louisiana, evangelical conservative Christian, whose wife said she would take grave action if he ever cheated on her.

He has. She hasn't. We should never look the other way on domestic violence, but if Mrs. Vitter carried some out on Senator Vitter, I'd let it go. After all, it's not like the hypocrite wasn't warned.

They are apples and oranges.
If you look, it is Liberal Judges, (At least here in California), that say they cannot take any action until the Woman is actually beaten. Nice huh?
Quit the diatribe on 10% of people out there. It makes you look silly.
By the way, it was the mother of all Blue State, Mass., where the population voted it down and the judges siad, sorry we are doing it anyway.
I say who gives a crap.

You are trying to make your case in the wrong way. How do you relate the two. Your argument is wrong..If you are for gay marriage, just say so. Too many people try to compare their position by comparing it to something else

I live in Canada where gay marriage is legal.
It's no big deal.
Domestic violence is a crime. Gay marriage isn't a threat to anyone.
