It indeed sounds like you were circumcised. Circumcision in the US reached its high in the 60s and 70s, with almost 90% of infants circumcised. But it started to decline towards the end of the 70s and is still slowly declining. By the late 80s, I think it fell to around 70-80% nationally, so it was still really common (especially so in the Midwest). Today the circumcision rate is just under 60% (with rates being higher/lower depending on the state).

It does sound like you were circumcised, and, yes. that was very common in the US in 1987. The rate started to fall sometime in the mid-1990s, possibly because more information for parentsn was made available on the Internet, and it is still falling.Unfortunately for you, you were born at a time when it was done routinely and most parents didn't think to ask the doctor whether it was necessary.

If there is no foreskin then you have been circumcisied. Usually if you have not been the skin will cover the head of the penis.
