i have a 70 mach 1 that has a very noticeble misfire. only at idle though. engine was rebuilt 10,000 miles ago. just put new carb. new plugs, wires, cap and rotor, points(they ve been adjusted correctly), and i ve done a compression test and everything is perfect. it runs fantastic when i drive it but only at idle does it have that darn misfire!!! help!!

Was there a misfire before you did the tune up? How frequent is the misfire? If it is every time a certain cylinder fires, it could be a rocker arm not adjusted properly. I've also had cars with a small exhaust leak that sounded like a slight miss.

What was that article now... Inductive cross fire on ford if I'm not mistaken. The gist of it was that consecutive firing plugs must maintain a certain distance between the wires especially if running parallel to each other. The article was for Fords but applies to most cars. Bottom line was use plug wire holders and separate consecutive wires in firing order. If all else has failed ,maybe this might help.

It may be in the idle circuit of the carburetor. The mixture is either too lean or rich. good luck.

at night open the hood and look for a spark..

that thought occurred to me.. but i assumed you were intelligent enough you would have mentioned a big cam..
i was wrong !

check for a vacuum leak they will mimmic a misfire.

you could have a defective plug or wire.
