i just finished putting my gokart all together and it was running great for a while. then i had to take it apart and when i put it all backtogether the motor kept like bogging down and not giving power. i disconnected the chain and started it and the motor ran perfectly, but the clutch was engaged... i have the idle as low as possible and i know that the clutch is engaging early. i dont know what to do because the 1" clutches are like 80 bucks and i just want to finish the gokart to sell it to a friend. can i buy a replacement spring? it only has one huge spring that wraps around the three shoes. where can i get that one spring. ? i only ran the gokart for like an hour taht one day i had it goign too.. :( can you help me?

If the spring is still on there, that's not the problem. Take it apart again and look for something in there that has it jammed and be sure all 3 pads are settled into place on the hub.

Add a new replacement spring. You may have a spring that's been subjected to a lot of slipping causing heat. Put a larger diameter chain sprocket on the axle and or a top sprocket with less teeth. It'll lower your overall gear ratio allowing quicker acceleration and less clutch slippage.

more than likely the spring is just too weak and allows the shoes to engage. also, there might be some debris (dust/shavings from the shoes on the initial runs) causing this too. might disassembly and clean well with solvent to ensure both the drum & shoes are clean.

my son's old go-cart had a similar style set up and it was forever getting dust &/or dirt in it causing it not to disengage when it was supposed to. could usually tap on it and it would free up but sometimes had to take apart and clean...

good luck!!!
