At http://www.nationalgunforum.com I have a forum for people who do support guns and weaponds. A great place for gun enthusiasts to ask questions and communicate.

I was curious to know how many people actually support guns. Being able to conceal and protect yourself is your right and should not be taken away. Your opinions?

How about a little history lesson?

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.

China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981,100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million 'educated' people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 MILLION.

And how about this?

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australian taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:

Australia-wide, homicides are up 32 percent
Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!
In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.

You won't see this data on the U.S. evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Yes I support gun rights. Do I want everyone to have a gun? No. Should felons, the mentally disturbed, kids, etc have access to guns? No. Do I think the militias in this country could put up a fight against a SWAT team or the military with a couple of rifles? No.

I think some people get a little nuts about guns. They aren't really that important for your personal safety, nor are they going to protect you from the government. I do like the idea of someone getting a full background check before being able to legally purchase a firearm. I like the idea of people going through a gun safety class before being able to purchase a gun legally and knowing who has a gun and a concealed hand gun license.

An odd question, or at least, worded oddly. I support people's rights to own and carry firearms. As a police officer, I have seen crimes prevented by people carrying firearms. (Arizona is a right-to-carry and shall-issue state.)

However, I have also seen firearms used to commit incredibly heinous crimes.

So, my answer would be, I support guns and weapons carried and used responsibly, legally and morally. I do not support guns and weapons used rashly, recklessly and irresponsibly.

I will be the first person to applaud someone using a firearm correctly. I will be the first person to arrest someone using a firearm recklessly.

I cited two local stories below. Take a look at both. Good and bad examples, there.

I agree. However I would like a thorough background check for all gun owners and concealed carriers to make sure they don't have a history of breaking the law, or psychiatric problems.

I know people who are constantly in trouble with the law, mostly small stuff, but I know they would whip it out at the wrong times, and turn a shouting match into a murder.

Keep in mind that the 14th Amendment forces the states to abide by the same restrictions as the federal government. So, technically, if the feds cannot enforce gun control, then the states cannot either.

But the main right in question is "the Right of the People to Keep and Bear Arms". So, in my opinion, a restriction on what you can carry (i.e., say you can carry a rifle, but not a handgun), is technically legal. But a restriction on carrying period, such as outright bans in NYC or places in California and New England, is clearly unconstitutional.

There can be illegal weapons, but a weapon cannot be held illegal simply because it is a weapon, if you see what I mean. You cannot enforce people being unarmed.

I think more thorough background checks, better saftey classes, and harsher punishments should be dealt out for those who do not comply with more liberal gun laws.
With that being said, I think anyone who shows responsibility, lack of severe mental disorder, or felony conviction, should be able to carry concealed.

but i also believe that if you own a gun, all children in your household should be required, by law, to take gun safety training.

I also think each state should make gun laws more accessible and easier to understand, so you know if you are going to get in trouble for any particular one.
I have been asking around, about a gun I plan to buy in Illinois, and most people I ask can't even tell me if it is legal for me to own one, or not.

the right to bear arms is more of a responsibility, and should be treated as one.

I support guns/weapons being on a person. I carry a 22 in my purse. I have a blade in my car. My husband has knives as well. Being able to protect yourself in this day and age is imperative. I carry them for protection and nothing less. I have to admit though some people should not be allowed to purchase, own or carry weapons.

I support Amendment II of The Constitution.

That being said I think we can do better with our gun control laws. I know that we can't go down to the gun store and buy fully automatic machine guns , but I think the rules should be tighter.

Hand Guns are for Killing Humans only.
The are not hunting weapons nor are they really any good for fighting in battlefield conditions.
So I would like them banned, same as machine guns.

Yes, every citizen should be given one of each type at birth. Let the child play with his gun all through infanthood, and if he lives then he will be ready for the streets of Oakland!
Guns and cars are Americans greatest contributions to the end of organized human life!

As long as criminals can have guns (and i'm talking about the ability, not the legality), then I have a right to have one to protect myself. Outlawing guns is great in theory, but all it will really do is have less people with a way to protect themselves while the criminals are still walking around with them.

Yes I do, I think American people have the right to own weapon(s). Most likely crime would go down. Criminals would be a little more leery to commit a crime when they know that there is a good possibility that the victim might have a gun on them.
