Depends on the court. If it is criminal court, the prosecutor is trying the case and your friend may or may not be needed to testify if a police officer can testify. If it is civil court, your fiend will most likely need to be there, but in some states, the parent may bring a lawsuit on behalf of his/her child, so if the parent saw the assault, he/she may be able to proceed w/ the case even without your friend. You should stop beating people up.

Does he have a choice to show? Chances are he has a court-ordered subpoena from the DA to appear. If he is MIA, he could get punished for contempt of court. Good luck either way, I hope the Judge and DA will do the right thing and drop the charges but you never know.

The first step is the arraignment -- that's where you are formally notified of the charges, and usually when bail (if any) is set. That's also when you get to request an attorney.
The trial happens later, if you don't plead out, and if the prosecution doesn't drop the charges.

Depending on the information the police have, you could get convicted with out her son. They probably have some signed statements from their original investigation.
Additionally, it is a crime for you to encourage in any way her son to not go to court.

just like the other answer stated, charges will be dropped, but changes are they will show, otherwise they wouldn't be taking you to court. plus i believe if you do a no show you still have court fees.

typically, you would have your friend contact the original police officer or the prosecutor and have a sit down to discuss the options..
