Ok, i speak from experience only because I've had a couple scares like this before.
First of all, it really depends on the color / texture of the blood...(sounds gross, but this is what you've got deal with here)
Pregnancy spotting is usually a light pink color and lasts for a few days, stops, then might continue again.
Secondly, if your girlfriend is not on the birth control pill (which I'm assuming she isnt since you said you use condoms and most people who use condoms don't use the pill too), then her cycle could be subject to change.
If a girl isnt on the pill, her periods can be irregular. Meaning that they can come randomly (early or even late, or even skipping months!!) However, if she IS on the pill, then I would recommend taking a pregnancy test right away. The pill makes your periods regular down to the exact day. So you know that if there's something unusual...it could be a problem.
The last thing I'd like you to consider (this is what a nurse asked me one time from Planned Parenthood when I had light bleeding one time when I wasnt supposed to be getting my period). She asked me if the last time I had sex was more "vigorous" than usual. And that sometimes girls can bleed a bit, even if you've been having sex for a long time, sometime girls can have a little bit of bleeding for a day or so and then it stops. For me, that was the case.
So, don't stress out just yet!
Realize that it could be any of those factors. And also make sure your girlfriend takes a pregnancy test right away! That's important. Go to planned parenthood for more information too, and for help about what to do in the event that she is.
Good luck!

An irregular period is not likely to be a sign of pregnancy. A period occurs because the egg has failed to become fertilized. A woman is only able to become pregnant when she ovulates, Ovulation (when her eggs are released) is generally 12-16 days in her cycle (day 1 of her cycle is the day she started her period). So to clarify, she started her period because her egg did not become fertilized. If it had become fertilized, she would not have started in the first place. Why her period stopped is anyone's guess, but most likely not because your sexual encounter lead to fertilization. It is not unusual for someone as young as she to have periods that change. It will take time for them to become regular.
So, bottom line: she is probably not pregnant, but there is always a chance. If you are both still genuinely concerned, then try to get to a local clinic that gives free pregnancy tests.
She should also look into going on birth-control, because if you don't want to get pregnant, the more ways you protect yourself, the better off you'll be.
Good luck to you both.
And don't listen to anyone who lectures you about the morality of having sex. Morals have nothing to do with it. Smart sex is safe sex, so always use protection.

I would have her take a pregnancy test. And like the one guy said if you don't want to be pregnant then I would stop having sex. Sorry. I know you are 17 and hormonal but It's the only true way to know that you won't get pregnant. If you guys are pregnant I pray you are willing to take responsibility or give the baby up for adoption.

To the person that said you can't have a period when you are pregnant, that is incorrect. It is unlikely not impossible. I would agree that it was probably just the sex. Also, Dont take any chances. My wife showed falses nagatives 2 times at the dr's office. In other words she was pregnant and the tests showed she wasnt. If you care for her express your concern for a test. If she has behavoirs that could be harmful to the child it is better to know early on so she can adjust. This is not saying that drinking and smoking are bad. Just not for a pregnant woman.

If you're usually protected then it makes the chances less. However, there is no guarantee. None of the bc are 100% guaranteed.
Actually bleeding just a little bit IS a sign of pregnancy. My ob doctor just told me last week that whenver a woman bleeds unexpectedly the first thing they tell them to do is to take a pregnancy test. Many women bleed when the egg implants in the uterus. the best way to know is to take a pregnancy test.
Good Luck!

Quit having sex! You are 17 and think it is all good to act like unpaid whores?!?! Get married if you want to act like a couple of whores with no self-control or respect. I won't even say, "use a condom," like other people. Just don't have sex until you are married. You may be messing with another man's future wife. That is reason enough for a good man that has self-control and respect to pass her up in the future (who wants to marry an unpaid whore?) and to beat the crap out of you for being a moron with her. Cut it out, man. Premarital sex leads to the degradation of the family. If the family is lost, then nations fall. Good luck!

Periods can do just what you say without being pregnant.
I suggest that if you do not want a child, however, that you rethink what kind of sex you are having.
I think condoms are like 98 percent effective. So if you have sex, 2 times out of 100 she could be pregnant. Are you ready for that?

wait til she is due on and see if her period arrives, and be aware of the early signs of pregnancy like being tired, needing to wee a lot, being very hungry or very 'off' food. the symptoms are different for everyone. but remember some of the symptoms are very similar to those just before a period.
and try not to worry, that will delay her cycle. time will tell really, but if you've used protection and been sensible then it's very unlikely.
good luck to you both.

First, even if you pull out you can get pregnant!
Secondly, a woman's menstrual cycle can last anywhere from 3-7 days. Every woman is different.
THIRD - A WOMAN CAN CAN CAN GET PREGNANT WHILE HAVING HER PERIOD!!!!!
For crying out loud, use a condom every time unless you want to be young parents and ruin your life, or be forced to decide whether or not to have an abortion.

Signs of pregnancy are different from woman to woman. What was a sign for one woman can just be normal for another, as far as periods go. If this is realy abnormal for her, or if you two are really worried, get a home pregnancy test.
