I need some good songs to play while buying/trying out a guitar.

Something thats more than power chords. Like "Europa" by Carlos Santana or "Black Dog" by Zeppelin, or even "You Shook Me All Night Long" by AC/DC

Songs like that. With more than power chords.

You should play whatever music you plan on playing with the guitar when trying it out. It doesn't make much sense to play Pantera if you're going to be playing jazz with the guitar and it doesn't make much sense to play Bob Dylan if you're going to be using the guitar in a Nirvana cover band. By the same token it doesn't make sense to show off by playing lead parts in a store if you playing rythem in a band (not to mention you'll save yourself from being hated by everyone in the store).

It's like buying a pair of shoes - you're not going to see how a pair of dress shoes stand up to sprinting when considering them are you? By playing the music you like when trying out a guitar you'll find the one that best suits what you're going to play.

I think Stairway to Heaven is a little hard to start out with. Smoke on the Water is good to try out, but don't attempt the solo. I've been playing a long time and still can't play it. You should try searching for tabs of easy songs.

good choices you have already, both ac/dc & led zep use heavy open chords & will show the real tone of the guitar; i would also do some simple bending riffs down the neck-maybe some Ace Frehley- just to see how much in tune it will stay also.

"Stairway to Heaven"

(That's a joke for the sarcastically challenged...)
