Carlos lee is a better player than scott posednik, but posednik is better for this team. They have Thome and konerko so they dont need a 1st baseman. I cant say they wouldnt have one the world series with Lee, but Lee would have no where to play.

Good for Both Now that Lee with the NL Leading Brewers, and Podsednik won the World Series with the White Sox I say both have Succeed.

The Lee/Podsednik trade was valuable for the White Sox because it gave them a speady lead-off man who could get on base and make things happen. However Lee is one of the top 5 run producers in the league. Short term this was a good trade, they won the World Series that very year thanks to some big moments by Posednik and Dye (Lee's left field replacement). If you take away the WS victory the trade looks horrible today with Podsednik and Dye having awful years whereas Carlos Lee is once again near the top of the league in RBI. It's a matter of opinion whether you're happy with your 2005 WS and 2007 battle with Kansas City for 4th place, or, keep Lee and have a competitve team that would have challenged and still be challenging for the AL Central Crown.

Podsednik was the main reason the 2005 Sox won the World Series. It was a great trade.

Carlos Lee was not going to resign with the White Sox and, at least, the Sox got something for him. If Lee would have left the team as a free agent the only thing the White Sox would have gotten would be a #1 draft pick from the team that signed him. So, I would think the White Sox came out of the deal the best they could.

Podsednik was a key player in the 2005 World Series Champion White Sox team though. He set the tempo in 'manufacturing runs', and that's how the team won games.
So they got a championship with Podsednik, and with Thome and Konerko, the White Sox didn't really need another RBI guy. So I'll say yes, it was good for the White Sox.

i would say it is not a good trade based on the fact that although Podsednik is fast and a decent fielder it does not make up for the production that the Sox lost by trading Carlos Lee. Also it doesn't help Posednik's argument that he has been on the DL like its his job the past couple of seasons.

It was an excellent deal for the White Sox. Carlos Lee really emerged the 5 years he spent with the Sox and was turning into an excellent player. His contract was running out and he knew he would get big money in free agency so the organization knew there was maybe a 10% chance at best he would re-sign. So instead of trying to re-sign him at season's end we dealt him for a speedy lead-off hitter that would get the offense moving. And let's not forget, that's not the only player the Sox got out of that deal. We also got relief pitcher Luis Vizcaino who went 6-5, had a decent 3.73 ERA, and pitched a scoreless innning with us in the World Series (all of this was in 2005; only spent 1 year with the Sox).
Not only did Pods spark our offense all year, he and the rest of the Sox won the World Series, so you can't argue a trade if the result was a World Series title. Sure Carlos Lee is doing really well in Houston right now, but Houston is in last place. So you have to ask yourself: Would you rather have a World Series Title in '05 and a current spot in 4th place, or a World Series loss in '05 and a current spot in last (6th) place. I'll leave that up to you.

It's hard to say. Carlos Lee isn't with Milwaukee anymore and the deal worked for them because of his power. I think they wanted to lower there pay by trading him to texas. With Scott Podsednik, it worked in 2005 when they won the world series and ever since then it has been a bad deal because, he can't stay healthy and he doesn't steal as many bases as he did when he was in NL or in 2005.

I think it wasn't a good trade
Carlos Lee has much better stats than Podsednik except for the SB's
Lee has power numbers and can hit 30+ HR's and 100+ RBI
Podsednik hits much fewer home runs, drives in much less runs, and hits as good as Lee
As for the Brewers, I think it was an excellent trade
